This website is dedicated to species within Triphoroidea. Triphoroidea is a groep of marine Molluscs, currently containing three families: Cerithiopsidae, Newtoniellidae and Triphoridae. The focus is especially upon Triphoridae, however in some cases information of species from the other two families is also available. It has often been the case that a species was described as a Triphoridae, but turning out to belong to one of the other families, or vice versa. The goal of this website is to represent all known extant and fossil species of Triphoridae, all relevant published and distributional information. CC0/CC BY images and illustrations will also be added whenever came across.
Triphoridae is a family of marine caenogastropods which occur worldwide. The Indo-Pacific host their highest diversity into the hundreds of species, however estimations even reach numbers above a thousand. It is in the Indo-Pacific among the five most species-rich families. Triphoridae are possibly parasitic species on sponges, assumed to be even host-specific.
